Krunch adopted!

Today, little Krunch went to his forever home to start his training as a pet therapy pup. He has a wonderful new forever home and a productive, happy life ahead. Thanks to a great foster home, many dedicated volunteers and a terrific hospital staff he will have a wonderful life.

Goldy's biopsy results

Well the biopsy came back on Goldy today and, unfortunately, it is a cancerous tumor. Dr. Lee, who performed the long surgery felt that he had gotten everything as it was not attached to anything. Unfortunately, there were extensive blood vessels involved. So far she is doing great but will now need to be placed in a PERMANENT FOSTER situation. She will be placed on the available page with this stipulation this week.

Sugar Baby adopted!

Little Sugar Baby was the first pup ready for adoption and is now in her forever home. These kids have done so well and are gaining weight by the day. Peppermint Patty is ready, also, and will go on the available page. Krunch has his recheck this weekend and will be ready after that. Check the available site for information on them. Thanks go out to everyone involved in helping these kids get a good start in life. We had terrific veterinarians, vet techs, and foster homes working with them. It's taken a whole team to make this happen.

Goldy in foster care

Goldy is now in a temporary foster home received the love and care she needs. She currently has two drains in her incision and will need to have restricted exercise. According to her foster mom, she is fine with the confinement as long as she has her toys and beloved ball to play with. This is just the sweetest, happy, friendly girl that you would ever want to meet. Everyone she meets is her friend. Has that typical Golden happy personality.

Peggy Sue heads home!

Today was a big day in Peggy Sue's life. She went to her new forever home. Her new mom came to meet her and fell immediately in love with this sweet girl. Peggy has totally healed now and hair is starting to grow back where her surgery was done. She has no trouble running up and down stairs and really enjoys playing with other dogs. I know she will be happy in her new home. Thanks go out to everyone who supported her care and helped her on her road to recovery.

Goldy has surgery

She was finally cleared to have her surgery over the weekend and it will be performed today. As soon as she has recovered, she will be going to a temporary foster home to heal.

Candy pups now in foster care

All three pups- Sugar Baby, Peppermint Patty and Krunch are now in their foster homes and doing great. All are active, healthy, happy pups. When they are cleared by the vets, they will be available to go to their forever homes. They are now 10 weeks - two females and one male.

Goldy's surgery postponed

Oh dear, today we found out Goldy now has kennel cough and that has postponed her surgery. She will now be moved over to the isolation kennel for treatment and care. Poor girl didn't deserve this but it's necessary to treat her and not give to the other dogs where she is kenneled. Hopefully, it will be a mild case.

Goldy cleared for surgery

I ran over to the vets today to check on the results of Goldy's biopsy and chest xray before proceeding with her surgery. Everything is clear and she will be having her surgery on Monday. After she has recovered and has the opportunity to go to a foster home to heal, she will be made available for adoption. Watch for her on the available page, soon.

Pupdate...

Both of our girls are now in a foster home together. They are eating on their own and doing well. This weekend little Krunch is set up to go to his foster home. They will have to wait until they test negative for Parvo before being available for adoption. Please check in to see how they are doing in their foster homes. I'll try to take pictures in the next couple days to post for everyone to view.

Peggy Sue is ready for adoption

Peggy Sue is doing great now and stitches have come out. She is now ready for her new forever home. Please check the available dogs page for more information.

Goldy rescued

Goldy recently came into rescue as an owner turn in at the shelter when her owner was shipping out. She has a large mammary tumor and an infection on the side of her face from either a bite or infected puncture. The vets did a biopsy on the tumor yesterday and we are waiting to see what they find out before attempting to remove it. We'll keep you posted on her care.

Candy pup, Peppermint Patty, goes to foster home

This is a happy picture. Little Peppermint Patty went to her foster home this evening with one of the vet techs who has been working with her constantly since she came into rescue. She was barking and wagging her tail waiting to get out of her crate. As soon as her foster picked her up she was licking her face and giving her kisses. She had done that to me the previous night when I was holding her while they cleaned her crate. She is eating very good on her own and fingers crossed she will finally be on the road to recovery. Tomorrow or Friday if all continues to go well, Sugar Baby will join her at this foster home. Sugar is eating on her own now but they want to watch her at the vets one more day.

Candy puppies update

We have had some changes with the pups. We lost Twix on Monday. He had been playful but the Parvo took hold Sunday really bad and he was gone suddenly on Monday. We now have Peppermint Patty and Sugar Baby at one vet clinic and Krunch and Caramel at another - all still being treated. Patty is doing very well and starting to eat on her own. As you can see from these pictures, Sugar Baby still is being fed with a nasal tube.

Candy crew not out of the woods

Things have changed a lot with this little family. Krunch and Caramel were on their way to a foster home but how fast plans change. I had everything loaded in the car to take to the foster home and when I walked into the vet's office I was told little Krunch had thrown up that morning. That changed plans and they were quickly whisked away to another vets for care. Currently they have a very good chance of surviving this devastating disease. They were quickly placed on supportive care and so far have responded well.

The other three pups are not as lucky and have been receiving treatment with two Twix and Peppermint Patty slowly responding but by no means "out of the woods". One little girl Sugar Baby is the one that we are very worried about. Supportive care is essential and I am so thankful that two of the vet techs, that have been taking care of them all week, came in on their days off this weekend to care for them.

Today was a happy day for these two pups. We've named them now and this is Krunch on the left and Caramel on the right. They are doing great and will need to go to a foster home in the next day or two. The sooner the better for these two. The other three, Peppermint Patty, Sugar Baby and Twix, will need more care but are still doing better than I had expected last night. As you can see when I asked the vet staff to name them they were only thinking of candy bars.

Puppies!

Today I was called from the shelter that a litter of 6 pups had been brought in by their owner to give up. One puppy had tested positive for parvo and was lethargic. That pup was put down at the shelter. The remaining 5 came into rescue the next day thanks to a wonderful volunteer, Tom, who ran immediately to help with them.
This disease is a very devastating illness and many puppies do not get the chance to survive without veterinary care. These pups were covered with fleas, had worms and giardia plus one tested positive for Parvo. They arrived at the vets active and playful. By the end of the day, two were not as playful and were put on IV's and antibiotics. I went home with a heavy heart not knowing what I would find in the morning.

Peggy Sue went to her foster home today for recuperation. She will be there until the stitches have been removed from her surgery. At that time she will then be available for adoption. She is great with other dogs both big and very small. So far, she has done very well with children, also, but to my knowledge she has not lived with them in the past.
