Button update

Button’s skin is really improving! We have learned that her right eye has entropion, so she’ll need surgery to correct this. We’ve had a number of pups come through the rescue with this problem – its where the bottom eyelid rolls in and the eyelashes rub against the cornea – very painful! But she's not letting it bother her and absolutely adores playing and sleeping with her foster brother, and even likes to watch TV. As soon as her mange is clear (hopefully in about two to three weeks) she’ll get her eye lift and spay and be ready to find her forever home.

Murphy ready for adoption!

Murphy has successfully recovered from Parvo and is now recuperating from his neuter surgery. He’s ready to find his forever home! He’s a loving boy who thinks he’s a lap dog, but hasn’t had much exposure to the world so will need some love and patience to teach him the world isn’t all that scary.

Cute as Button

Button is a 5-month-old petite girl we found in a shelter. She came in with a bad case of demodex mange on her face which we are treating her for. She’ll be getting medicated baths, antibiotics and additional medication to help clear up her skin. She’s a friendly girl with lots of personality and energy.

Murphy diagnosed with Parvo

Murphy is a 1-year-old boy who was abandoned at a vet’s office after he was diagnosed with Parvo. We were able to get him into rescue and our vet is treating him with fluids and antibiotics. His prognosis is good and hopefully he’ll be ready to go to a foster home soon.

Motown update

Greetings from our main man, Motown.

Our veterinary specialists arranged for his transfer this week from their Ontario office to Carlsbad, where their orthopedic surgeon could perform his surgery.

His foster mom, Krystal, was by his side when he left, and we overheard a little exchange between them. Krystal: “Can You Do it?” Motown: “I’ll Keep Holding On.” Krystal: “I’ll Be There.” And off he went.

Motown did well during his surgery yesterday. What the doctor discovered, however, was one of the worst shoulder injuries he had ever seen. He told us that a severe twisting injury must have caused the terrible trauma to Motown’s shoulder.

We’re optimistic that Motown will be pain free going forward. The doctor isn’t sure if Motown's mobility will improve, but if he’s pain free, he can live very well with some mobility limitations.

He had a good night last night, his appetite is good, and he’s walking with the aid of a sling.

Tomorrow he comes back to Ontario, where he’ll be ready to go home with his foster parents, Krystal and Eric.

Meet Motown

Meet Motown, a wonderful GRCGLA RESCUE dog who came to us with a serious orthopedic problem we're now working to solve. His name brings back Golden times in American musical history. We found him in a shelter singing "Where Did Our Love Go" and "Stop! In the Name of Love." Our volunteer saw him as "My Guy," and told him, "You've Really Got a Hold On Me." He promised to be our "Pride and Joy," and is living up to the bargain.

Motown needs all of us to rally around as he overcomes his physical difficulties. We saw immediately that he was walking with a limp and seemed to be in pain. Veterinary exams and x-rays did not reveal any abnormalities, yet Motown often did not want to put weight on one of his legs, so we scheduled an appointment with a specialist and had MRIs taken. We’ve learned that he has a serious shoulder condition requiring surgery to alleviate his pain and help restore function to his leg. His surgery is scheduled and we’ll provide updates as he progresses through rehab.

Motown is busy thinking ahead to a new family life, and we’ve heard him softly singing, “Someday We’ll Be Together.”

Kanga adopted!

I am so very happy to say CONGRATULATIONS to Kanga, who has found his forever home with John and Gracie of Los Angeles.

As you know, Kanga came in with Roo last December. They had been found in a field/park near the Long Beach animal shelter, both are blind and have limb deformities. The shelter contacted us to see if we could take them in, and Cecily and I went down to meet them. These pups are the sweetest dogs ever, and have no idea they have disabilities. Kanga has some deformities of his front paws, but gets along great as you have seen from his foster mom's (Barbara S's) videos.

 John has been looking for another companion/family member for him and Gracie, and saw Kanga's pictures and videos on our website, and fell in love. After discussing his situation with Barbara S, she thought it sounded like he could provide a wonderful home for this most special pup, and we were quickly able to set up a meeting. John brought along his pet sitter, and everyone got along great. Kanga happily went on his way with his new family (Barbara reports he never looked back, but I had to remind her he is blind) and like any young brat took up most of the seat with his new doggy sister.

John reports he's doing great - well, when I asked him how it's going he said, "He's heaven!" He said it is a lot of work, but he's worth every minute of it. He joked Kanga needs to learn more spatial recognition - he wakes up with Kanga laying on his head. He's keeping in touch with Barbara and I'm sure she'll be sharing updates with us all.

Kanga thanks Cecily for being there to help bail him and Roo out and give both of these resilient Goldens a chance at a good life. He is so very grateful to the CP Dog Walkers who all fell in love with him and got him out daily. He's forever thankful to Barbara S for offering to foster him when she was on vacation, and realizing what a joy he was (and how much Anja liked him) and keeping him through adoption. He thanks Kriss for checking out his potential new home, and the placement team and PA Eva for making the match.
